High Tea in a Hurricane

My granny is traditional, yes.  She wears pearls and Ferragamo and Louis Vuitton and went to Harvard.

And today she hosted high tea at the start of our second natural disaster this week...a hurricane.  It was cool, actually-- I got to meet some of her friends from high school. They are a fun and rowdy bunch. Or about as rowdy as five giggling elderly black women can be.

We ate in the old Cassatt mansion, where my granny is living now.  It's really beautiful: crown moldings and a baby grand piano and a winding staircase...there is even a servant's bell. Not bad for a nursing home. I mean senior living community. It's classy. Mad Clessy.

Anyhoo, the tea went spectacularly, or at least as well as it could have gone given the fact that there was a torrential downpour outside, no gas at the gas stations, no batteries or water, and no candles.  In spite of this, everyone and their mother (okay- everyone and their grandmother) seemed to be out-- the trip out to the burbs was nearly doubled from traffic.

This reminds me of my old college days in Florida when we'd wait out the hurricanes: there is quiet anxiety coupled with who-gives-a-fuck excitement.

Sorry for cussing, granny,

Quickie: Back in the Saddle

So I'm back from my running injury and feeling good.  I think.  Of course, post- injury I have to cut back mileage, which pushes me back to a plan I wasn't crazy about. Well, a plan whose lack of rest days I wasn't crazy about. I decided to take two rest days and add strength to cross training days. Iguess.

I feel a little silly. I don't know a thing about running, and there seems to be so much to know: stride, pace, base- building, recovery, cross- training. But I'm out there...reading all I can and hoping I learn something that keeps me from killing my shins.

Anyhoo. The academic year has unofficially started again so I'm back in the saddle there too.

10K, here I come...

Sexy Secretary. Um, Not Really.

So.  Recently, in my pics, I can tell I am losing weight.  Even though the scale isn't really moving, other things are shifting.

And the reason the scale isn't really moving?

I am eating like shit.  Since C25K, I have been hungry.  At first I thought it was thirst (which, to some extent, it was), but I feel as if the normal meals I've been hanging onto for this whole journey aren't cutting it anymore.  Thing is, I can't pause weight loss.  I still have more to lose- doctor's orders.

I have really good willpower, so I know something else is going on here.  I'm going to make sure I'm getting all 4 cups of veggies in my plan and eat a bit more fat to see if that calms the raging monster that is my stomach.

Thanks to everyone who commented on the surgical oncologist (including two comments that were visible via blogger, but not actually on the blog! Weird!).  I called to see the other one, and they refused to schedule me since I'd seen Rat Face.  I escalated it to the division director, who has basically ignored me, I'm sure hoping that I'll settle down and go away. More calls next week will determine my next move...though I do really want to stay at the University Hospital, so I may just have to suck it up.
